Why is Prozac making me SNAP?
I have Bi-polar and have tried it seems like everything they have. The only thing that ever worked for me is Abilify which gave me tardive dyskenesia. Id almost just deal with having that and get back on it. My doctor gave me Prozac and it took only a few days to get adjusted. After that, well, I'm snapping on people. My moods are like a rollercoaster. Happy, sad, mad, quiet, snapping on people.. a little violent. Started that 2.5 months ago. I went to the doctor last month he decided to double the dose and put me on depekoate. OK now its double worse only I feel like shooting myself when I get the least bit upset. (boyfriend hiding the gun) I was never THIS bipolar before. I am not going to take prozac today. I didn't yesterday only I'm dizzy. I need to know ho to wean myself off it please?

Prozac has a known history for patients committing suicide while taking it. Have your doctor informed immediately that his doubling your dose is not for you! Or better yet, find a different doctor while you still can. Bipolar is a very hard condition to get the right combination of meds to control it.
Scratching my head wondering why he even prescribed this in the first place.

There are many different medications for bi-polar disorder, the Depakote will allow you to find an even keel, lessening the high(aggravation)and lows(lack of energy),once it is found therapeutic, like most meds of this type it takes time to find your body's therapeutic levels.
When I was on Prozac I felt the anger as an issue also,I was on and off it quickly as I didn't like the responses.
Today I am on Zoloft and Depakote with many other meds on an as needed basis, far from a smooth lifestyle, but a lot better than the old lifestyle by far.
Give a new doctor and new therapist a try,it takes many changes to find the right ones.
Staying on the meds you are prescribed is paramount,if you begin to self medicate(taking the doctors roll in your recovery)you risk the side effects at greater levels and the therapeutic level is just not there.
I wish you some relief from this pain your in and I hope you can find peace soon..

Definitely make sure you call your doctor to let him know you want out of the prozac, seems like its definitely not for you. I was on Sertraline, and found that worked very well for me, side affects wearnt too bad. Citalopram didn't work for me, gave me the strangest dreams, and messed with my sleeping pattern.
Glad to see you've seen a doctor though, hardest step done :)

Our dashchund is on Prozac now because of some very aggressive behavior toward family members (he growls and snaps any time he is moved or touched--more so at night and especially when touched with feet accidentally or otherwise). This behavior initialy got better after starting the Prozac, but now...
