    Greenies
    Hi all,

I just recently saw a thing on 20/20 about how the Greenie bones are bad for dogs. But, I only caught the end of it. Can someone elighten me as to why they are so bad? Labman?

Read Rickj's link. Unfortunately Greenies aren't the only problem. See https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/dog-toys-42979.html There I point out the danger of a dog gnawing down a suitable size chew to a dangerously small one. And of course, they can tear off pieces of rawhide, squeaky toys, stuffed toys, etc. The pets stores are full of that stuff, and apparently many dogs do fine with them. Dogs and their chewing vary. The Lab I had last year, I think did more damage to our Kongs than the other 16 put together.

Year ago on the original AskMe.com, one member I knew and trusted posted a heart wrenching description of watching her dog choke on a Greenie.

The other problem with Greenies and like products is the recommended sizing. For instance, they would have you feeding a petite to a cairn terrier. A petite greenie is exactly the right size to go down the windpipe of a cairn the wrong way - Think toddler with uncut hot dog.

They have a new version of Greenies out now that are soft enough to theoretically prevent impactions, or other injuries, but I would still recommend feeding at least one size bigger than they recommend, if at all.
