What kind of child support should I expect from my child's father? MEaning what would he be responsible to pay for?

Child support is based off his income. Each state has their own formula that they use to calculate support with. There are usually many factors that go into that formula it isn't just a set amount. We will need a lot more information before we can help you better. Most importantly what state are you in?

Also if your on state aid then don't expect a dime because any money paid out by the noncustodial parent would go to the state.

We are located in Virginia. I'm not on any assistance. He makes about 40% more than I and he has no other minor children. He is a government worker.

There is no custody agreement. The child lives with me and he visits with her every other weekend.

Thus one of the first issues, you have "assumed" custody but not legal custody, you are going to have to file for custody also and he needs to get the visits in a court order.

Wild guess would be 15 percent of his pay, but there is a complicated formula that is used

You can go online to VA's child support calculator for a guestimate at what he would be paying. Like I said it is a good guess at what would be ordered but because you have no formal custody at this point you can't imput all values exactly as they will be used in court. Also you don't know exactly what he makes so you can't put that exact figure in either. But if you want a good rough idea then you can use it for a guideline.

What I meant about this question is that what details are we suppose to split? Ex. Do we have to split child care, food, clothing, health insurance. etc. He says he should only have to give me half of child care and he could buy her clothes. As you can tell I'm struggling and need some input.

It depends on what is ordered. Half of child care might be ordered but the entire amount will not be. He will not be ordered to buy clothing because that is what the child support is for. He would be responsible for half of any uninsured medical bills. But that's really about it because the rest of the costs are covered by the chid support. Support is ordered to cover that parents part of food, clothing, and shelter (including utilities), and school costs provided the child is old enough to attend school. You can't put the child in a private school and ask the judge to order more money for things that are covered with the support. Now, he may or may not have to have the child covered on his insurance those things are all things that is up to the judge so we really can't give you more than, get a court date and get it all ironed out sooner rather than later.
