I want to step down from my position.
I have been working for my company for exactly 2 years this month. I was asked last year to assume the position as Team Leader when the last one found another job elsewhere. The last couple of months have been a nightmare and the stress that I am feeling with this job has forced me to resign my position. I, however, do not want to leave the job, just my position as Team Leader. My company have more or less told me that they cannot make another position for me in the Team meaning that if I resign, then I would be resigning my whole position in the company and would therefore be unemployed. There are 3 of us who work in the team. My reasons for resigning Team Leader position are due to actually receiving less pay than what I was earning 2 years ago (even with the new wage structure), unpaid travel time to and from sites, stress of dead-lines and an amount of unpaid work at home, i.e. work-schedule planning, etc etc.
Can I resign my Team Leader Position and carry on as second or third-man in the team or will I have to resign my position entirely with the compnay?

You said the company already told you there is no other lower position available and that if you would resign as Team Leader you would be unemployed by them.

Basically you've boxed yourself into a bad situation. Best start looking for another job now if you can find the time to do so as this current situation is not going to change in a big hurry for you for the better.

Your only other recourse would be to wait until one of the lower positions become available and then ask your company to be transferred into that position. Keep your fingers crossed that someone lower than you quits in a big hurry.

    Hello a:

There doesn't appear to be anything illegal in what they're proposing to do.

I have already said to the company that I will remain in my position until I, or someone else trains up a member of my Team, and the other two are both capable of doing my job, but they are rejecting the offer and not even considering it. All they would have to do without costing them money is assess the candidate that is in my opinion best suited to the job! At the end of the day it amounts to just a contract adjustement. OR NOT?

    Hello again, a:

Contract?? You have a contract?? That changes everything. Tell us what it says about quitting or being fired.
