Seahwk83, if he gets an error message concerning his "audio device," it's probably not muted, right? More likely a driver or hardware problem, I would think.
Bahamut, like Seahwk says, you can check your Device Manager to see if there are any yellow "!" next to your sound devices. You can also find your soundcard brand on the Device Manager. To get to Device Manager, click on "Start," then right-click on "My Computer," then select "Properties," then choose the "Hardware" tab, and the first button on the top should say "Device Manager." Once you're in the Device Manager, look for "Video, audio, and game devices," and click the plus sign beside it. Your audio devices should show there, and if there are any recognised problems, you'll see the yellow mark; the brand name of your audio devices should be there, too. All this is based on Windows XP, so if you have some other OS you may find navigation a bit different.
I'm sure Seahwk knows more about this kind of stuff than I do, but either way I'll keep an eye on this thread and see how it's going.
