I'm not sure but you might want to try dvd shrink. I know the program can put a dvd on your hard drive and you can take out scenes. I haven't tried to just take the sound off the dvd. But it might work.

You may have to scroll down a bit to see the list of applications.

Edit: I'm quite certain that you will not be able to use your cdrom drive to do that.

I'm not sure of any program that can do that, but I know what some friends of mine do. They simply play the DVD/AVI and record the sound going through their PC. You should be able to get some programs to do this (can't remember what the one my friends use is called - I'll find out later today). Just make sure you don't use any other programs etc. while it's running. Otherwise you'll get something like internet messengers making sounds to tell you have new messages etc.

    Dvd
    Hi,
You need a DVD drive, to play or listen to DVD's.
They will not work in a regular CD-ROM drive.

If you have a DVD drive, you might can use your sound cards' program to record the music to your computer, then burn it back to a CD-R.
The Nvidia Sound cards come with a program, such as Creative.
You could go to Start/Programs/Creative, then open the Recorder.
This is not the same recorder as Windows... it's much better.
    Best wishes,
    fredg
