Hello. I am in the process of trying to redo an upstairs shower with no ready access from below. This began as I noted several lower rows of tile had come loose along the shower wall. I have removed the tiles and underlying greenboard which was present from the walls from the level of the ceiling to the shower pan. There is a mortar shower pan with wire mesh and vinyl liner. The edges of the mortar along the margin of the shower pan are very irregular. I don't have a clue how the greenboard could have been adjacent to the pan in light of the large irregularities of the mortar along the superior margin. In any event I'm questioning whether there is a way to save the shower pan. My current thinking is to remove the mortar shower pan completely and install a kerdi system. What would be the best way to go about removing the shower pan? Is there any way and would it be wothwhile to attempt to save the current shower pan? I am certainly a novice to this type of project and any help and insight would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for any wisdom.

If you have greenboard behind or beklow the pan it isnn't worth saving since it was done wrong from the start. Use a sledge and start from bare studs.
