I have a yard machine grass trimmer and a Stihl back pack leaf blower and both seem to have similar problems right now. I can get the trimmer to idle just barely but any gas at all and it dies instantly. I can get the leaf blower to idle perfectly fine but will die out when the gas is applied all the way. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi,
I believe I would try new fuel first since both exhibit the same basic symptom. Use at least mid grade, a name brand oil and always buy it where you know they sell lots of fuel.

You may also try adding some Dry-gas to the tank on each piece of equipment & wait a few hours. If you have bad gas with water in it, the dry-gas will bond with it and this treatment will solve your problem.

Then, change the gas once you know the water has been absorbed from the fuel lines.

Had a the same problem a few months back with two of my gas powered tools. Don't know whether it was caused by dirty gas but fixed both of them by turning the carb adjustment screws all the way in (while carefully counting the number of turns) until they seated and then backing them out to the original position. Seems to have cleared what ever was clogging the ports and both ran fine after that.

I have replaced the gas with good clean stuff. I have tried the adjustment screws a few times as well. It idles perfectly fine and I can get occasional short bursts on the throttle without killing it now but still pretty much the same. It still kills when the throttle is pulled. This is on my STIHL backpack blower.

How about the spark arrestor screens? Are they clear or clogged?
