    2 cycle fuel mixtures
I have an old Craftsman gas trimmer. It calls for a 16:1 fuel mix. Using today's 2 cycle oil is it okay to use a 50:1 mix? Same question applies to an old Homelite Super2 chainsaw. Thanks, Phil.

    Hi,
The qualified answer is yes. I say qualified since I have never had it fail with a name brand oil; I mean Echo, Stihl, Homelite, Poulan, etc. Almost all the oils are blended by a company in Louisiana and the critical component is (or was) called Exxon UltraBrite. It is a clear viscuous oil that lubricates the bearings, cylinder wall, ring lands, etc. The quantity of it present determines the mix ratio.
    Peace,
    Clarke
