    After 6 years.
After 6 years an ex is going after me for child support. I don't know this child and the mother and I do not get along. I have another child that I am supporting financially, not to her, and I bearly have time to see that child. I'm in the military and work fulltime. I do not plan to be in the child's life and at this point it is best that way.
Am I required to be active in the child's life?
Can I surrender parental rights and just make child support payments?

Why surrender your rights? First, it's almost impossible. Second, pay the Court-ordered support and just have no contact with the child.

It boils down to the same thing - the child is supported and you have no contact.

I don't know how you can walk away from a child because you are "busy" - and I've seen threads about what this does to a child's self image in the long run - but I'm the first to say that that question does not belong on this board. Someone had to say it.

You are not required to be active in the child's life. There is no need to surrender parental rights (if you were even allowed to do so). You will still be required to make support payments as ordered by the court.
