    No signal to monitor
Hi, I’m not completely lost when it comes to computers, so a friend of mine asked me to fix his computer and I’m completely stumped. He tried to change his keyboard and when he plugged in the new one there was no longer any signal going from the tower to the screen. I replugged the original key board and got the same result. Another member on this site had a similar problem (topic "Monitor - NO signal...running out of ideas!") and I tried everything thing that was suggested on that page and still no luck. Anyone have any other suggestions??

    Thanks

P.S. I'm not sure if I'm in the right category,so if I'm not please let me know:)

If the monitor is giving that message it means that the monjitor is not detecting a signal from the video adapter. It has nothing to do with the keyboard. Either the tower is no powering up or the cable is not connnected properly to the video adapter (it could have been loosened when playing with the keyboard) or the video adapter is damaged.

If possible, connect the monitor to another PC and vice versa. If the monitor works fine on another PC then its not the problem, If a different monitor works fine on his PC, then the video adapter is OK.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already changed the video adapter, the cable is properly installed, I installed a new power supply so there is power to the tower, and the moniter is in perfect working condition cause I'm using it now. The thing about the keyboard was just to explain what my friend did to screw it up. If you another suggestion, I'm open to hearing it.

    Thanks

You would have been better off telling us the steps you took rather than the keyboard thing.

You said you changed the video adapter. Was there a video adapter board in the machine or was it on the motherboard? If it was on the motherboard did you disable the onboard video?

Again that message indicates the monitor isn't getting the signal from video adapter so it has to be somewhere in that connection.

ScottGem: The Video adapter was a separate component from the motherboard. There doesn't seem to be an onboard video adaterwith the motherboard

relroy: I tried moving the RAM to different slots and resetting them but still no luck. I haven't tried changing them though.

Thanks to both of you, I'll let you know if either suggestion worked. If you have other suggestions, keep them coming.
