I have a sear wall furnace series 600. I replaced the thermo couple valve- pilot still will not stay burning. What should I check next?

Okay, so you replaced the thermocouple, or was it a thermopile? Did it have a copper tube going to gas valve or two wires hooked to gas valve? Are there any other wires coming off area of gas valve where thermocouple or pile hook to? Is the flame directly hitting the thermo''''. Let us know about these questions and we will do our best to help you out(worst case senario, it's a bad gas valve,, but not likely.) probably and easy fix,, I hope. Lee.

I thought the package read thermocouple- The flame if directly burning on it. I turn the pilot valve and hold 1-2 minutes -after that the flame will burn out.

I replaced the thermocouple and still the pilot flame will not stay bruning. Sear furnace 600 series.

The package said thermocouple- still the pilot won't stay burning.

If this is a wall furnace? You may have a limit switch tripped keeping the thermocouple from getting a reading to the gas valve. If you have two wires that plug in under the thermocouple you have a pilot safety keeping it from burning. If you don't have 2 wires under the couple the flame on the pilot is not hot enough or the pilot safety on the valve is bad and you need to replace the valve (not uncommon).

I agree with t-top. The two wires at area where thermocouple hooks go to limit switch (if you have these wires, can you post a pic?). A picture of the gas valve will tell us a lot. You have four possible problems,
1. bad thermocouple(which you have already changed, eliminating it as the problem).
2. Not a strong enough flame hitting the thermocouple(which you say there is sufficient flame hitting the pile).
3. The portion of valve that thermocouple screws into(only if it has two wires coming from it that go to a safety switch, which would mean it could be the switch or wires causing the problem.
4. Bad gas valve.

Really a pretty basic system you have, we should be able to point you in the correct direction with a little more info from you. Good luck and please keep us posted. Lee.

Thanks guys , I will take a picture of the gas valve and post it later. If the valve is bad where do I find a replacement. The unit is at least 20 plus years old and what will a gas valve cost to have replaced. ( Sear wall unit 600 series)
