    Probation revocation
My boyfriend. Is on probation. We recently had a death in the family so he called to cancel his appointment. We won't b in town for 2 more weeks and knowing his p.o she won't be happy. Do we need to tell her the exact address or is that unneccecary.can she just know the town.He figures when he gets back he will probably end up in jail which is a good possibility. Hes never got into trouble with his p.o before and is worried he will get revoked?R the chances good he will get revoked or just sit some time like I keep telling him? And if you have a u.a and you fail it-first time failing it can you get revoked? He's on paper till 2011. Just wanted to know what to prepare for?

In almost every jurisdiction, you must get permission from the probation officer before you leave town. You will also have to prove that there was a death and they will want the location of where you will be staying.

With a dirty urine, failure to report (calling to cancel appt.) and leaving the jurisdiction without permission, I doubt that he will be on paper until 2011. He will probably be revoked after returning.

You cannot just call up and "cancel the appointment" with probation. They don't care what the circumstances are. You are supposed to be there on that particular day period. The only "excuse" they will accept will be if you are in the hospital. Other than that, they do not consider a death in the family as a "good excuse". If your boyfriend is smart he will go to his probation meeting and THEN leave for out of town. If he is going to be traveling out of state he needs prior written permission to do so otherwise it is an automatic violation if he is caught.

What do you mean "you won't be in town for 2 more weeks"? That right there is a no, no. He just cannot leave for 2 weeks otherwise he will definitely be violated if he is not at home or work should the PO decide to make a surprise visit or call up to speak to him.

Sorry, assuming this is a close family member they will allow him to go, but what he does, he either calls or go into the office and gets permission to go. And sets a new appointment

    Hello c:

They DO have emergency travel permits... You COULD have gotten one. I don't know WHY you didn't, or didn't even try. People like that go to jail... Not for leaving the jurisdiction - but for STUPIDITY!
