    The Executive Branch (the President), the Legislative Branch (the Congress) and the Judicial Branch (Supreme Court) are supposed to balance each other out so that no one branch has more power than the other.

    However, things like the Patriot Act and the Congress rolling over to give the President War Powers without them declaring war has kind of skewed the scales a bit.
