Pick-up truck's idling
Hi,
I live in an apartment. My neighbor remotely starts his pick-up trucks's engine and idles it in his assigned parking lot every morning for more than 5 minutes before leaving. It's early in the morning, and the low noise really bothers us.
I made a complaint to the office, however, I was told that there's no regulation to control the idling and that there's nothing the office can do to stop that.
My spouse used to own Ford's pick up truck, but never idled to move. I don't know much about trucks, so there may be a kind of truck which requires idling before moving.
Is there any truck the idling is required before moving?
Is idling allowed even if it's not heavy duty automobile?
Thank you.

Unfortunately for you with today's technology, there are many bells and whistles you can do with a remote control.
He's doing it because he is able to do it. After all, he paid for that option. The truck doesn't need that much warm up. Probably none needed at all except to hop into a warm cab.
It's very common these days and I'll bet there's nothing you can do about it other than ask neighborly friendly to stop that.
Good luck with it.

There's no need for extensive idling, before driving. Your experience is, unfortunately, part of the "cost" associated with multi-family housing in today's world. If you can, take advantage of the depressed housing market to improve your quality of life:

Not to totally reiterate what my esteemed colleagues have already mentioned, you need to understand your local noise ordinances.
Some jurisdictions have what are considered "quiet hours" within a community.
The question is: "What is the criteria?"
There's cooperative and there's also rude...
Find the answer to that and you'll be able to talk about the issue with your neighbor.
I just hope they are responsible enough to listen.
Good luck!

As you suggested, I checked the local noise ordinances. It's 55db during the specific hours, but I don't have the device to check.
We have very quiet neighbors except the idling in early morning.
What makes me upset is that the neighbor has no idea how much we are annoyed by the noise because the neighbor has never heard the noise during his sleep.

Try and make a deal with him. Tell him, in return for not idling his truck early in the morning, you will wash his truck every other week, or whatever. I've done things like this and it works well.
