    Ceiling fan sparked and now doesn't work?
    Too make along story short I am not particularly strong in repair/replacement of the ceiling fans in the house I have bought and for some reason they are a mystery to me.

    The bottom of the ceiling fan in my living room basically fell off it was apparently not well attached to the housing to begin with and my vcleaning knocked it loose, the bottom piece contains the light ficture and was hanging only by the white wire and there was a spark/bit of fire and I was able to turn it off and all is safe... however...

    No breaker was tripped in the box and there appears to be no power even to the fan (light fixture has been undone) Id rather not pay for an electrician but I'm not too savvy with electrical appliances... I like the fan, it is a hunter, is this a lost cause? Suck it up and by a new one and let the pro's handle it?

    Suck it up and buy a new one. And read the directions on a multitester to see if the wiring is putting out some juice. Knocking off the bottom of the fan must have crossed some wires cooking the fan motor. Next time turn the fan off and vacuum carefully.

    Carefully read the installation instructions on the new fan. Installing ceiling fans is not very hard to do. Was this fan wired directly to the ceiling? If it was then you need to test to see if the wiring is still intact by using a multitester. If the fan was on a swag chain and plugged into a wall socket, test the wall socket by using a lamp to see if it turns on or not.

    A ceiling fan light kit is attached with only a few screws and, in your case they came loose or were never installed properly. After we fix the wires just raise it into position and see how it skides together like a kettle and lid, then add the screws. When it dropped the lights must have been in the on position. When the blue and or white wire can loose or cut themselves free you got a spark. This would not trip a breaker but the light will not work until you reestablish a good connection for both white and blue wires, twist and wire nit tightly.

    Is it a remote fan?
