How to test 200 amp breakers in the elec box
How do I test a 200 amp breaker going to another 200 amp breaker (mobilehome set up) I have all proper test equipment... electrictian left when he installed the # 1 - 200amp on meter panel and did not test the inside panel he wants 200 to come test it. I asked him before he left and he said it will work don't worry about it when I am ready to use elcetric just flip on the inside 200amp breakeri get no electric to inside panel box when inside panel 200amp breaker is turned on?? I will not pay again
I have a 400amp meter what wires do I test for a read? Where do I put my leads?

Basically you want to check voltage in and out of breaker(s). Also verify it is 240 volts across the load side of the breaker, a breaker "Half tripped", can show 120 volts out of both load terminals, but no 240.
I don't think you wanted to apply a 200 amp load to test the breaker.

Hi
No it's a 200 amp panel I have a elec tester that can handle test up to 400 amp
However I know how to test the 15ap and 20 amp breakers they only have one hot a neutral and a ground... The 200 amp breaker has two hots a neutral and a ground connected to the panel from the outside 200 amp breaker panel one or the other is not working, as I have no electric to any of the smaller breakers going to lights outlets and so forth... I need to know how to test the mains with the circit tester I have? I have used it many times but never on a 200 amp again where do the leads go to test they will only reach so far the hot lead on one hot wire in? And the other to the box What??

OK, so yo just want to know if you have power to a certain point, correct?
What you want to test for is voltage.
Set you meter to AC voltage. To test a 120V line you set your meter to something greater than 120V. You test between the hot and the neutral or between the hot and ground..
To test a 240 volt line you set your meter to something greater than 240V and test between the two hot legs. Each leg or hot has 120V. You can test each leg individually by setting to 120V and testing between the hot leg and the neutral or ground. Just like you test a outlet. It's voltage not amperage you are testing.
BE CAREFUL!!

What piece of test equipment do you have? Can you post a make and model?
I agree, that there is something not understood by us and that's the reference to 400 Amps. I believe that you may have a clamp-on ammeter that can read the current flowing through the breaker.
A first order test is do you have voltage on one side and the other? Voltages acroos the two hots before and after the breaker need to be 240.
Voltages from either hot to (ground or neutral) should be 120 V.
Voltages between ground and neutral should be small.
Breaker load testing is not something that's done in a panel.
Measuring the voltage across the poles using a sensitive scale of your meter with a LOAD is done. You can easily blow your meter if not careful.

Linda;
What everyone is trying to say (I think) is that all you need to do is test for voltage at the new panel.
Normally, electricians in the field do not load test breakers (they do not actually verify a 200 amp breaker trips at 200 amps) This requires highly specialized equipment, so it is done at the factory, and the breaker is certified.
There are a couple ways to test for voltage. One is to actually turn the breaker on, and check voltage at the panel. Another (and safer way for a homeowner) is to simply turn the breaker on, plug something in, and verify that it works.

Hi
First I have a 42 range digital muiltimeter
It can test loads up to 400 amps ac/dc unfused 500 v and 600amp 400amp max
I know some about electric I wired my house yet I still have things I need to learn as they pop up and this is one... I did test the breaker box inside e moblehome and there is no current getting to the smaller breakers... The shut off breaker is 200 amp inside the inside box
There is another 200 amp breaker in the box on the meter pole outside acually here's the breakdown
Existing meter with 200amp breaker and 2 -30amp sub breakers to barns
There is a 200 amp box below that coming directly out of the above panel box with a 200 amp breaker in it going into the moblehome 200 amp panel... one was there the elcetrician added the one below that's going into the moblehome one of the 200 amp breakers is bad I think

Take a picture of the panel with the covers off and paste using go advanced/manage attachments and hopefully we can annotate.
Your use of the terminology current is wrong in context. You should be saying voltage, since that's the term of interest. "current" is correct because some current is needed by the meter to measure voltage. In context the term that you should be using is voltage.
200 Amps of current is usually measured with a clamp on meter. An example meter is here: Fluke 321/322 Clamp Meters
