Disk is not accesibile the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable
    Hi

When booting my XP system I'm getting an error messgae saying 'Disk read error' ctrl+alt+del to restart.

Im getting this error after trying to do a repair install and performing chkdsk, because initially windows was rebboting itself on startup.

The hard drive is partitioned and I've connected it to an old machine of mine and then gone into My computer > D: it says 'Disk is not accesibile the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'

Is there anyway I can still save my files on this drive?

if you can hook the drive up to another computer to view the contents. If you are still getting a file system error then try booting with knoppix. There is a utility there designed to repair file systems damaged by windows. I used it a couple of times when I accidentally formatted my whole partition.

If you go this rout, Google "Knoppix Filesystem Repair"
