Hi,

This is my first post here and was hoping for some help.

My father gave me this Weed Eater XT20 T because he could not get it to work. I'm not even sure what he tried to do as he hasn't been feeling too well lately. So I started to look at it. I replaced the spark plug, and cleaned the air filter. It was empty so I filled it with gas which promptly leaked out everywhere. I noticed the fuel line was up in the tank and gas was just running out the hole. There appears to be a fuel filter rolling around in the tank. One question is... Is the fuel filter suppose to be stuck in the hole and sticking out the bottom so as to attach the line from the outside? The next question would be if there is a way to open up the fuel tank in order to reposition the fuel filter. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like it's going to be a pain to try to do this through the gas tank hole since it's such a small opening.

What do you think the best way to go about this would be?

Oh, and how does it seal so that it doesn't continue to leak?

Hi,
The line goes through the hole and about 4-6" of line is inside with the fuel filter on it. The easiest way is to lube the line after cutting it to a chisel-like end and easing it in. A pair of needle nose pliers through the fill hole can assist in pulling it in, up and out the fill to have it cut straight across and filter installed. Then push it into the tank and connect the other side to the carb.

A great tip for re-threading a brand new fuel line is to cut the line at an angle to a sharp chisel point and then place the fuel line into your freezer for 15-20 minutes.
DO NOT freeze it solidly brittle.
Take the line from the freezer and quickly thread it up through the tank hole far enough into the tank so that you can get hold of it with a needle nose pliers or other tool. Pull just enough fuel line up into the tank and out of the filler hole to allow you to attach the fuel pickup filter and drop it back down into the tank. Clip and continue to attach the fuel line to your carb.
