    Harassing My Kids
I have a former employee that has been going around telling all kinds of lies etc. But now she has crossed the line and is attacking my kids. Day before yesterday the principal from my sons school called and this woman came in and stated that my son threw down her son and kicked him resulting in a knee injury during PE. She also claims to have an order of protection against me(none that I have been made aware of). We discuss the situation and determine that all are lies as usual. The teacher was not aware of incident, child did not complain during or after class to teacher or nurse (and this child is a loud complainer).
But when my son comes home from school last night he is in tears because this boy comes in with a knee brace and several children have been told that we are being sued over the incident etc. Then to further this problem when we go to football practice a couple of adults approach me with the same insane stories. When we get home my son is once again crying because he is afraid of what might happen.
Earlier in the summer this woman actually went to the homes of my son's friends to spread rumors. But thankfully these boys and their families know our family and did not believe this woman.
We have told our children to stay clear of her children and to report incidents to the school if things happen while there. What can I do??

In Australia you can do a number of things, I am assuming you are in the US?

One is that you can take out an intervention order against someone who is 'harassing' you and it does not need to be physical harassment. The other is that you can get a solicitor to write a letter to them about spreading malicious gossip.

This is a story of something similar. I think you should get serious and hit her with a solicitor's letter. The solicitor should also write to the school and inform them of what is happening.

The only way to deal with a person like this is with a big stick.

First, this is a legal issue not a child rearing issue so its been moved to this forum.

Yes, you need to consult an attorney and swear out a complaint against this woman. You get a REAL order of protection against her.

The problem with charging her with slander is you have to prove you have been damaged. However, you have clearly been harassed and there should be laws in your area to prevent it.

Now, as an aside, I would explain to your children that there are some not nice people in this world. But that they have the truth behind them. That they should hold their heads up. Tell them not to worry about the ravings of someone who will go to such lengths to lie about things. If any other kids ask them about these incidents, just have them tell them it didn't happen.

If any adults come to you with these stories, tell them this woman is a disgruntled former employee who is trying to get back at you. That her accusations are untrue.
