Stinky cold water in Kitchen only!
When I first turn the cold water on at the kitchen faucet it stinks. If I let it run 20-30 seconds it clears up. This only happens at the kitchen sink and only with the cold water. I was told the ice maker hose to the frig could be stale and be sucking back to the faucet so we put a flow valve that will not allow back flow from the ice maker hose and we still have the smell. We have run bleach through the line to , no help. Any advice?

Remove the aerator from the spout. Turn on the cold water and tell me if the water still smells. You have bacteria growing in there somewhere. Let's track it down. Back to you. Tom

Thanks Tom,
I have removed the aerator and there was gunk in it, so Im going to replace it, but after no use for a couple hours when you turn it on again (with out aerator) it's still smelly, it just doesn't seem to take as long to go away, probably because the build up is gone. Would the hose to the sprayer be funky? Visually it looks clean, it's a semi clear hose.

Now I'm going to need the brand name of your faucet. Is it one or two handles? Does the water from the sprayer smell bad? When I find out what you have you're going to open up the faucet and soak the insides with bleach. Regards, Tom

Hi Tom. The faucet is American Standard and has two handles. The Sprayer smells only for a short time just like the faucet. So do you want me to open up the faucet and soak it in bleach? Thanks!

Yes, Shut the water off the valve and open up and remove the stem and washer assembly from the co0d side. Pour bleach into the open faucet until it run out the spout. Let itset for a while and reassemble. Is the smell gone now? Good luck, Tom
