Error message when starting computer (on XP Pro)
    Hi,

On my other PC, sometime back I tried a tip that I read somewhere which allows direct login without getting the welcome screen and no need to select a user and enter password...

Just a few days back I changed that (from Control Panel | User Accounts |... ) so that a welcome screen is display and I get to click on the only defined user (Administrator;whom I had renamed).

Since that day and every time I start my PC a windows pops up with a dialog box (quoted below). Can someone please help.

    Thanks.

The system could not log you on. Make

sure your User name and domain
are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords
must be typed using the correct case.
    P.S.
BTW, after clicking the OK button on this dialog box, I get the welcome screen, get to select the user, enter the password, and then all goes fine.

Ok, your computer is still trying to do an automatic logon. The problem now is that when it tries to put your password in it is the incorrect password. So if you were trying to disable the automatic logon you have not done so yet. Hope this helps.

Ok, from my understanding you want the login screen to appear whenever you start you computer now correct?

If this is the case you need to make sure you changed your settings correctly and make sure they were actually applied. From the error it sounds like you have changed your password and the password the computer was using to automatically log you in is no longer correct. Since the password is incorrect it can no longer just log you in automatically even though it is set to. So basically you just have to make sure it's set to no longer log you in automatically because it sounds like the settings didn't save.

If you are still WANTING it to log you in automatically and are frustrated because it is no longer working you need to go to the settings and retype your new password into the settings so it is no longer trying to log you in under the incorrect password.

If it is still confusing, boot the computer is safe mode. You will get an Administrator account. Login to that and do a system restore to an earlier point.
