Stove gas leak, or sewr gas leak?
Hello, we have a problem in that we have noticed a smell much like gas inside our house. Our toilet is not properly attached to the floor, it just sits there and is unstable. Do you think it is there that the smell is coming from. Or do u think it is the stove that has a leak? Thank you.

    Hi Moonstar...

If you're still around to read this today then I'll bet it isn't a natural gas leak... :) However, to be sure, you could try to shut off the gas shutoff to the stove (usually behind the stove) and see if the odor dissipates over the next few hours. If it does then you will need to call the local gas company asap to see if they can help to locate the leak. A plumber or appliance repair person may need to be called in after that.

Finally, if the stove test doesn't resolve the issue with odor then much like you suspect there is probably sewer gasses escaping from the base of the toilet and the toilet will need to be installed properly to resolve the issue. Do not take this lightly as sewer gasses are definitely unhealthy and in certain circumstances can be quite explosive!

You will need to let us know exactly why the toilet isn't installed correctly at this time for us to be able to tell you any more in terms of repairing this.

    Back to you...

I'm with Mark on this. Sounds like you have a ruptured wax seal. Pull and install the toilet properly. Good luck, Tom
