Skin darkening around mouth
Hello...
Am 21,female... I am fair complexioned.but, I have dark colored skin around my mouth.
It looks really ugly and I always keep covering it when I talk to someone. I had it since 3yrs and I used many crems like azelic acid.etc.but of no use.
Please suggest me some remedies to get rid of it...

You say you had it since you were 3 years old, do you think it could possibly be a birth mark? Because would if it is not a blemish but a birthmark or something else, then you would continue to waste money. I would suggest going to see a dermatologist first and see what he says it is, then go from there.

I believe it's melasma; a simple over-the-counter skin fading cream or prescription based on 2-5% hydroquinone will do the trick. (Seeing as you're fair skinned, and this level of hydroquinone for a while will not harm you.)
Not only is this very cheap, but it should lighten up fully within 2-4 weeks. If you do experience any major side-effects or continued darkening/degenerate skin, talk to your doctor concerning melanoma or any other form of skin cancer in it's higher form.

Yeah, Lilgreg may be right. If you only had it for the last 3 years now then it isn't a birthmark, possibly just a discoloration. Also using it with tretinoin may help as well speed the lightening process.

You can search for different regimens of Hq that worked for people. Some people use the Hq twice a day, then the next day take a break and just use an exfoliator at night, and alternate. Some use it twice a day every day, so you would have to try and test to see how your skin reacts to it. I have not tried the Hq yet, but considering it for next month if my regimen has no success.

Hey am glad to say that dark skin around my mouth I,e little(30%) of it is gone aftr using for 6 weeks.
And I discontinued aftr that because I've heard that prolonged usage of Hydroquinone show some side effects.
And please suggest me what to use nw? Should I continue with the same? Suggest something for me.

Exfoliating with a good exfoliator and a high spf sunblock should work well to maintain.

Hi,
The area around the sides of my mouth is noticeably darker than the rest of my skin.
It was always a bit darker, but no too much, and I think I made it a lot worse by overexerting with a microdebrasion cloth.
I've read around here and on similar forums, but remain a bit puzzled on how...
