    Drinking and pregnancy
    I was just wondering...

I got pregnant about 2 years ago and before I knew I was pregnant, I went out drinking a couple times. I ended up having a miscarriage at about 10 weeks. How much harm does this drinking do to the baby within the first couples weeks of being pregnant? I mean I obviously know that drinking is harmful to the baby( I wouldn't ever drink, if I knew I was pregnant. And I don't drink all the time, maybe once a week at the most) but there have to be some people who just don't know they're pregnant and drink some before knowing. Would my drinking have been the cause of the miscarriage?

Drinking is very harmful it can cause derformations to the child. This is called Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder..

Babies exposed to alcohol before they are born may:

Be smaller than other babies; and

Have slight differences in their faces – small or narrow eyes, and a thin or flat upper lip.

BUT some babies are worse than others when it comes to drinking while being pregnant there is NO possbile way the baby would come out normal. Because alcohol destroys the growing process of the baby.

So if you drank a lot when you didn't know you were pregnant yes it was the cause of the miscarriage.

THanks for your response. I am aware of what drinking does to babies. I was just kind of wondering how many people get pregnant but before they know they are, they go have a couple drinks. After I found out I was pregnant, I stopped drinking right away but then had the miscarriage a month or so later. Wondering if anyone knows what the chances could have been that I miscarried because I went out those couple times before knowing I was pregnant.

so if you drank a lot when you didnt know you were pregnant yes it was the cause of the miscarriage.
    This info is incorrect.

Babies WILL be born normal if you have a few drinks while pregnant. Notice I said a FEW. Not every day, not every kind of liqour. Some doctors even suggest that a glass of red wine will help induce sleep at the end of the pregnancy when it is hard to fall asleep.

If this info was incorrect then I have a deformed 13 year old daughter. I did not know I was pregnant until I was 4 months along and I did some drinking during that 4 months. But the funny thing is is that she is beautiful and an A student on the honor roll at school.

No, most likely this was NOT the cause of your miscarriage. Miscarriages happen for many, many reasons. Alcohol being one, yes, but we cannot diagnose that over the internet.

Chances are it was not. Miscarriages happen for a great number of reasons, such as the tissue was not viable, etc. I would not let it bother you.

I see why it would after reading one of your other answers. But that is a lot of misinformation.

Was this your first child? If so it is common if you miscarriage on your first baby. And I know a lot of people who drink all the until there 2nd term and the baby is fine. Not that I'm saying that you should drink when you are carrying a baby. Oh I'm a medical assisstant.

It was not my first miscarriage. I had one about 2 years prior to this one.
