My brother is looking for a specific book, but he can't remember the title or any of the names of the characters.


It's about a magical area in the world where everybody has a different magical ability. The main character, doesn't have an ability, and because of that, he's going to be exiled from that part of the world. And if someone tries to re-eneter the area, there's a forcefield that will kill them.
At the beginning of the series The main character goes to a wise man who lives in a castle to find out what his ability is. They can't figure out what it is an dhe is exiled.
On the other side he meets a man who was exiled because he is evil, and he can turn anybody into any species of animal that he wants.

And then later in the story he finds out that his ability is that he can't be harmed by magic. And he ends up marrying a woman that goes through a cycle every day she turns into a different appearance and personality, such as Ugly but smart, Plain with average intelligence, or beautiful but very dumb. And at the end of the second book their son has the ability to talk to inadimate objects.



I have no Idea what my brother is talking about and he seems very determined to find out what this book is called. If anybody has any ideas let me know! Thank you!
