So I have an Ancient bathtub in my apartment. It doesn't have a stopper (per say) just a overflow pipe under the sink and some long tub thing that you drop in to the overflow pipe if you want to stop it.

This tub has always run slow, but now... it won't run at all... Ive tried chemicals (that was fun diluting for 2 hours after it didn't work), plunging, pressure... and when I try to use a shorter snake, I can't get it to go DOWN... only back to the bathtub drain (or at-least it feels like it)

Ive considered buying a longer snake... but I can't find any references to this type of bathtub, so I don't even know the pipe structure. I took out the tube thing that is used as a stopper and noticed on the bottom of it some threading... is it possible something fell off the bottom of it? If that's the case, how do I get it out? Some pics attached... any insight would be nice... im trying to avoid getting the landlord involved (don't want him to attempt to blame me you know? Also... PRIDE I Want to DO IT MYSELF hahaha)

About your only shot would be to purchase a longer snake and clear the line. After , flush the drain with a tub of hot water. Good luck, Tom

Hi all:

You can also try to remove that plunger type assembly from the tube and then cover the tube with a wetted cloth (insert into tube about 2-3 inches and then fill the tub with 2 inches of water and PLUNGE the tub waste vigorously again. Be sure to have someone hold the wetted rag firmly into place in the tube as you plunge the drain.

Here, if you don't cover the plunger tube (removed plunger) then when you use a real plunger to plunge at the drain the AIR will just go up and out the tube instead of being forced down the drain.

Remove the plunger assembly from the tube, cover with wetted rags as mentioned, fill tub with 2" of water and plunge away... see what happens.
