    Sewage leakage
    I had one pipe under my house that was leaking[I am on a crawl space].The leak was minimal,but I need to know what the best methods of disenfecting and getting rid of the smell are? Thanks for any suggestions

    We need to know what material the pipes are. Also what's leaking? A joint? Hole in the pipe? A fitting? Let me know. N Tom

    The pipe was steel.it has been replaced with plastic pvc,but I still have some residue on the ground and the odor

    The pipe was steel.It was the last steel pipe under the house.It has been replaced with pvc pipe.what I have now is a small amount of residue on the ground and the sewage smell

    You could get a bag of lime and dump it on contaminated area, I've heard of people having good luck with it.

    I agree with MGD77: we also spread Lime over sewage spill. It will dry it out and desinfect in a matter of hours.

    All good answers, however there are precautions to watch. Quicklime requires careful handling. As it sits, it can acquire CO2 from the air, reverting to its original form. This means that it needs to be used quickly, especially once it has been mixed with water in a process known as slaking. Lime is also extremely caustic; it can burn the skin and cause other damages. When used responsibly, quicklime can be immensely useful for things like mixing strong mortar, acting as a flux in smelting, and treating waste water, among many other things.
