    Squatters rights in Florida
    Please explain what these rights are...

    There is no such thing as squatter's rights anymore. It has been replaced by the law of adverse possession. This law says that a person may apply to the court for ownership of property if that person has fulfilled the requirements of the law. The requirements in Florida are that the person possessed the land openly (in full view of others), excluded others from using or possessing it, without the owner's permission, for a period of at least 7 years. In addition the person had to either have a reasonable belief that they had title to the property or they had to pay the taxes continuously for that 7 years.
