Signing the birth certificate, Disabilities, Child support, Proving Paternity
If I sign my son's birth certifiate, does that require me to pay child support through the state if I am not with his mother? My son was born with disabilites and I can't afford the hospital bills. His mother has not allowed me to sign the birth certificate. If I do will I be responsible to pay back all or a portion of his bills? Can I sign the birth certificate without the mothers consent? If I prove paternity, how much does that cost on average and what additional charges would the state make me pay?

Your name does not have to be on the birth certificate for you to pay child support. You only have to be a biological parent.

So, you will be responsible whether your name is on it or not.

It's so sad that you just want to run and hide and pretend that this child is not yours, just to let the mother do it all by herself, as if she can afford it alone.

Next time, wear a rain coat

A lot of this post bothers me to the bone. If its your child then you need to step up. Go to court and establish paternity. Get your child on your medical. If the disabilities are sevier enough then your child may qualify for ssi and that could offset the medical costs. When people decide to have children its not a matter of getting what you want it's a matter of accepting what you get. Hire a lawyer or seek legal aid if you qualify. Get it done right away.
