More change we can believe in?
Or at least in Massachusetts, where in 2004 they changed state law at the urging of Ted Kennedy to require an election to replace a Senator back when Romney was governor and Lurch (John Kerry) was running for president.
Now that Kennedy is seriously ill and a Democrat is governor of the state, Kennedy wants it changed back.
A cancer-stricken Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has asked Massachusetts leaders to change state law to allow a speedy replacement if it becomes necessary for him to surrender his seat, fearing a months-long vacancy would deny Democrats a crucial vote on President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.
In a note to Gov. Deval Patrick and other state leaders, Kennedy asked that lawmakers allow the governor to appoint an interim replacement pending election of a successor, to ensure there would not be a period with a vacancy. Currently, the law requires a special election to be held within five months.
"It is vital for this commonwealth to have two voices speaking for the needs of its citizens and two votes in the Senate during the approximately five months between a vacancy and an election," he wrote.
Let's recap, it wasn't vital for the state to have "two voices speaking for the needs of its citizens and two votes in the Senate" when a Republican was governor, but now that a Democrat is governor it is absolutely vital. Right?

Now ex, this is supposed to be the era of change. The Dems, under the Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers, are supposed to be ending corruption, crushing lobbyist influence, obliterating politics as usual. Can't they at least offer us a glimpse of character after all the BS they fed us on "change?"

Yep, and Texas is right up there with the redistricting we've done. But come on, this is pathetic. Kennedy has no shame whatsoever.

Hello again, Steve:
No, but he had a GREAT sister, Eunice, and his brother, MY commander in chief wasn't too shabby, either... Bobby was a cool dude too...
But, if you want to talk about shame, what about the Hammer trading in his steel toed boots for "dancing pumps"?

Um, I don't think he'll be wearing "dancing pumps" but I'll be interested in seeing if he can really dance. But he's not in office any more, Kennedy is.

I got to second the opinion of Eunice .If all the Kennedys were like her they'd be a family of saints.
The people of Mass elect these elitists over and over again so in a way they deserve what they get. Anyone in the State with half a brain should be able to deconstruct the motive here. It is NOT in the people of the State where fat Teddy's interests lie . He wants to preserve the Senate Democrat Super Majority.
In his letter Kennedy wrote :“I strongly support that law and the principle that the people should elect their senator'' . But ,Governor Patrick is most famous for penning the phrase... just words ....just speeches....
No doubt ;the name of his successor will most likely be addressed... Senator Kennedy.

Kennedy : "It is vital for this commonwealth to have two voices speaking for the needs of its citizens and two votes in the Senate during the approximately five months between a vacancy and an election,"
Deval Patrick : "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it".

Is it Mark Levin or Rush Limbaugh who refers to Teddy Kennedy as "The Swimmer"?
Frankly, IMO "The Whale of Chappaquid" sounds about right.

Which is an intersting statement since you mentioned that you struggle with your weight as well. Are you a big fat whale too?

I like belugas, an ex-girlfriend of mine LOVED them. I just get nauseous at the idea of a human male looking like one. The whales have the fat layer for a reason.
Anyhoo I'm not a lib.

Momentum is building in the State to bumrush a new bill through the Legislature to honor the request for Governor appointment of a replacement.
But so far the only real reason they give is that they need that 60th Democrat vote in the Senate in case they need to get a socialist model health care passed through parlimentary trickery .
What ? You buy into the excrement that they are concerned Mass. Is not represented ? If that were the case;then why didn't Kennedy resign from office when it became apparent he could no longer serve ? Mass. Has been under-represented since he announced his illness .
Such cynical chicanary is consistent with the Kennedy legacy so perhaps it is fitting that such a move smack with hypocrisy be made in his honor.

That could be one of the most politically appropriate things ever done.
