I was trying to weedeat around the thick growth near my Lennox AC when something got caught up in the spool. A friend came over and said it's the wiring setup from inside the house that comes from the thermostat, then proceeded to wind the wires back together in accordance with their color. G, W, R. (The thermostat was on when I cut through the wire). There's a giant fuse outside near the unit in it's own box slightly larger then a pack of cigarettes. Also, I can see the person who lived in this house before me probably cut through that wire as well, because it has been put back together in the same fashion and doctored up with electrical tape. Anyway, we bought a new thermostat just to rule out the possibility of electric backlash messing up the thermostat. No dice, so we put the old one back on. I'm confused as hell and need some advice. That's why I pull the control wires with the Supply wires, physical protection.
Most Compressor units use 2 conductors that connect to the Compressor contactor coil, last couple of years, could be 5 or more? For diagnostics.
You likely only blew a fuse or 240 volt to 24 volt transformer.
An AC Tech will likely turn off the outside disconnect, and physically follow the wires from the compressor contactor back to the air handler, where it was exposed to damage.
You will likely have to verfy the 24 volts out of transformer.
Bet only 2 wires are used.
