    Male cat "mothering" new kitten
I recently got a new female kitten (7 weeks) and I was worried how our 3 years old intact male would treat her. The strange thing is, after the first day (which seemed normal, hissing and fighting) the fighting turned into playing, and now my male cat is grooming her and trying to grab her by the back of the neck and drag her around (much to her dislike)
Is this OK?. he's not trying to mate with her is he?

    Thank for the help :3

If the new kitten is not being harmed in any way (make a close inspection periodically) I would leave them to it. My two cats are brothers and the subordinate one repeatedly tries to get over on his big brother by doing exactly what you described in your post. Of course, big brother only tolerates it to a point. Its all a part of their play along with lots of yeeeowling and thundering about like a herd of elephants! So if you can determine that this is just play, then I would not be concerned. However you better make plans for surgery asap for one of the two, unless you want more kittens! First heat can be from 5-7 months, I think?

When I first brought home Natasha @ 11 weeks. My male cat Ziggy @ 1 1/2 would carry her around. Ziggy would bring her to one end of the house and run from her. Very comical to watch as he ran away from her with her right on his heals. After a few days he began grooming her and even letting her try to nurse off him. I've also seen a male cat basiclly babysit for the momma while she went out. He would lay right in the box with the kittens and groom them and keep them warm. Just watch out as she matures because his love will begin to take a different form as she ages, if you know what I mean.
