    Drain overflow
Hi.. I have a question about my drain that's been overflowing all day.

I live in a condo (ground unit) with a closet that houses my small electric hot water heater and heat pump.

There is a drain in this closet. A pipe from the heat pump and a pipe from the water heater goes into this drain. It has been overflowing all day.

Water is overflowing from the drain in small amounts all day.

Is it from the water heater?
Or is my sewage pipes back up?
Or is the condisation from the heat pump and the hot humid weather we are having?

    Thanks Matt

Actually it could be any of those 3 options but the drain would need to be clogged for the heater or heat pump. That drain leads to your sewer and is likely the lowest spot in the home so any back up could come up through the drain. Test by shutting off the water supply to the water heater or simply touch the verticle pipe coming of the T&P valve, if its cold move to te heat pump. I assume you have ac/heat with this pump so shut off the system for awhile. The AC part dumps condensation down that drain and I think the drain is clogged and the condensate is what you have coming back inside. That drain can be easily rodded with a 1/4" snake.

Thanks for your answer... I'm going to snake the drain.
I original thought it was the water heater.
But further invesigation I saw it was coming from the drain.

It is a ac/heat pump... and the drain went down when I turned everything off...

    Thank you..

PK sounds like you AC is doing what it is supposed to. Dehumdifying the air. It collects water faster than the drain can handle so the drain is partially clogged. Should not be too bad since its usually lint, dust and bugs.
