    Water leaks from air exchanger
I have a major problem with the water leaks from air exchanger in my attic. I had the drain clean, replace the pan underneath but there is lot of water coming out and filling up the pan. My Air conditioning guy is saying I have to replace the air exchanger which is going to cost $2900 plus labor. I am just just wondering is there anyway this exchnager can be repaired or is he doing something wrong that water is not going out fast enough. Please help.

The unit has a built in pan. The pan underneath is a safety pan in case the one in the unit fails or plugs up. Usually the pans in the unit themselves can be replaced but it is a pain in the A$$ and some are no longer available (depending upon the model) so one would have to be custom made. Now this info is if the pan in the unit is really bad and not some other item like a water coil for hot water heat etc.

The pan underneath should not fill up but should have its own separate drain line going to the outside since that is the reason for the pan underneath to start with. As a safety overflow pan its job is to catch and dispose of the condensate from the A/C evaporator coil to prevent damage.

I would be sure the safety pans drain line is working as it should since that will buy you some time to make the money decission. Another item you might do is get a second opinion of your systems condition.
