I want to buy my serious boyfrind of 4 years a really amazing chrismas present this year,(I think I'm getting a ring? ) I think maybe a watch but I have no idea what makes a good watch? I want to spend in the reagon of up to £350, and all I know is that he likes brown leather straps. But I don't want to ask him because then he will guess and it won't be a surprise!#if not I was also thinking of going on a short brak in england somewhere but I would want that to happen pretty soon after christmas day and I don't think many hotals and tourist attractions will be open at that time of year? Huummmm any ideas?

A watch sounds like a good idea to me.

You know he likes brown leather straps. First step done.
You obviously can't ask him, so ask his family and friends, if you trust them not to tell him. ;) I cannot tell you, as all men are different, I don't know him, and I'm not a mind reader.

You need to find out if he likes chrome, copper, gold, platinum, or whatever other color. If he likes an adjustable date on the watch, a wind-up or battery operated, roman numerals, numbers, or just notches for the hours.
Other than that, any other options I don't think would matter much.

Either way, I'm sure he'll appreciate it, if you are giving it to him with love. :)
