I need to know the name of a children's book
I am looking for an old children's book about a little african american boy who does errands for his mom. He needs to buy butter, but to bring it home he puts it inside his hat and it melts all over him. So the mom said "the right way to bring home butter is to wrap it in leaves and dunk it in the river, and dunk it in the river, and dunk it in the river" .

The next day he is given a puppy. He remembers what his mother told him about wraping it in leaves and dunking it in the river (3 times). Mom said "the right way to bring home a puppy is to tie a string around it and let it follow you home"

The next day he is given fresh baked bread. He ties a string around the bread and has it "follow" him home.

This is a story book that my grandmother used to read to me. I would love a copy. Does anybody know the name?

I can't remember the author, or specific title.. but it was something along the line of 'The Fat Cat' or 'The Hungry Cat'. I'm fairly sure it was published by penguin. The story followed the lines of a cat eating...
