    TroyBilt Lawn Tractor changing belts
I own a Troy Bilt Lawn Tractors Model # D609G and had all (4) of the belts changed. I noticed that when I engage the mowing deck with the PTO lever... there is a delay in start up of the mowing deck blades and when I change the mower deck height from 5 down to 3 (where I normally set up to mow), I can hear the engine rpm 's decrease and if I set the deck height to a 1... I can barely see that the mower deck is turning the blades. I used the MTD belts and had a garage mechanic change the belts.

My question, do you think the belts need to be adjusted... seems to me like the mower deck belt is too loose... and why would the engine sound like it is slowing down when I change the mower deck height?

    Thank you,

    Doug W.

    Hi,
It is normal for the engine to change "notes" when loaded by an engaged deck. It is not normal on your model with height change unless something is loose, out of position, etc. I would check the idlers and spindles for freedom of movement (I guess people who read my posts could guess - but I always do anytime I am near the deck.) I would engage the deck (without engine runnig) and raise and lower it noticing changes in tension, position, how it moves against the hangers and the position of spindle brakes. There is no adjustment, per se, but I would watch the springs, hangers and brakes carefully as I believe one of those is at fault. Could be a "hair-puller" and be more than one.
    Peace,
    Clarke

Troybilt Tractor Lawn Mower gears won't engage [ 1 Answers ]

I have an older Troy Bilt 42" deck Pony Model #18363013AN779G Serial #1L164B30018. It ran really good one day but the very next day, it will start, blade will engage, but it will not engage the forward or reverse gear. The shifter moves without a problem, but it is not engaging. Thought about...
