Career Crisis
Here is an inside look of me.
I am 22 years old, I am happily married (3 years now), and have a 14 month old daughter. I have never been to college but landed a great paying job right when I turned 18 years old and have been here ever since. I am a bookkeeper/receptionist/secretary/office manager.
And I HATE my job!! I sit in the same chair day after day staring at the same picture day after day, and just wish I could be somewhere else. I only stay because the pay is great.
I want a career not just a job and even though my pay is great where I am there are no advancement opportunities and I have already made it to the maximum I will get paid.
I have been thinking a lot about what is out there, and this is where I need help. First off I DO NOT want an office job, I want a challenge and adventure. I do not have the time or money to go to college for 4 + years to then get a minimum pay job while I am in training for whatever I have to do.
So I was thinking of going into law enforcement. My husband of course doesn't want me to for the obvious danger risk. But to me it seems so rewarding. Right now all I work with is men and a police station doesn't seem that different. I rather be in the dog house than in a chicken coupe. I am girly to a certain degree but I am defiantly not afraid to get my hands dirty.
The test for the academy is coming up in September and I need some advice into what I should do, is there a test out there that I can take, that will let me know what job I would be best at? Or if it is a good idea to go through with the academy.
Please I need your help!

If you know how to get into law enforcement without going to school for it please let me know. Even if they do not require college they would require you to go through a minimum of 2 yr police academy training from what I understand.
When I first started reading this I was thinking you could maybe start an at home tax and notary business.

I just don't want to go to a 4 year college. The police force where I live does a 8-9 month academy paid with benefits. And the pay is about 700 to 800 dollars less than what I make now but once out of the academy it goes up dramatically.
And I couldn't do at home taxes because I am not an accountant. Bookkeeper and accountant are two separate things. I do everything but taxes and as for a notary, there isn't too much money in that.

Then maybe you should go for the academy.
There are probably sample tests you could look up on the internet. Or maybe the academy might have some sample tests.
I would go there and ask for all the information they have and read up on it all

Can you be accepted to the Police Academy with a husband on probation?
You have decided against becoming a zoologist - which, of course, requires a four year degree - ?

Well even though being a zoologist would be fun, I decided that to go through all the schooling to just get a minimum wage job would not work for me. Sorry I did not keep everyone else updated on that. I spoke with a detective at the department and they said they have no problem with people on probation only felonies.

And as I said in my question about zoology, I was "thinking" about it which obviously I have chosen not to.
For law enforcement I have more advancement opportunities, and I feel strongly about going into it. And in time pursuing a degree in either criminal justice and/or forensics which will take me 2-3 years in the city I live in to complete. This way I can still get the career I want while I get Education assistance.

So it will work out for you - obviously there are different "rules" in different localities. In my area the immediate family must have a background check and if a family member is on probation you cannot be hired for fear "you" will be open to blackmail or temptation.
