I have no insurance, he has no license
Ok so here's my dilemma. My cars brakes suck and I ended up rear ending someone who had slowed down to let the person in front of him pull into a parking lot. My car was totalled his car was left with a low rear bumper and a medium dent on the side. He decided to call the cops, we all stayed. I received a fine for not having insurance and he got one for not having a license. He didn't speak english so I couldn't get his whole situation.
So I agreed to help pay for his damages. He calls me today with a auto body estimate of 10,000 for his damages!! That's like a whole-nother car all together. I might not be a mechanic but I know it can't be that much. He was able to drive it off after the police left so it couldn't of been that damaged. If he does take me to court for not wanting to pay will I lose because I rear ended him or win because he wasn't supposed to be driving in the first place without a license...

The fact that he was driving without a license has no bearing. You were at fault.

Find a body shop you can trust and tell him to take the car there for an estimate. If necessary get at least 2 estimates. If he does sue you, you can show that his original estimate was outrageous.

His having no license make no different to this. You are toally at fault and have to pay for his damages.

You can and should ask for three estimates or at least hire an independent adjuster to look at it.
And yes, you may loose your licesne if you don't take care of this

He has a right to have his car repaired at any shop he chooses. You, on the other hand, have a right to verify that the charges/repairs are legit.

You were at fault so he has a right to have his car repaired (or replaced). He can sue you for his loss.
