Double Major in Accounting & Finance?
I am a college student who has always taken an interest in accounting since high school. I am just beginging the 150 hour credit option(which is geard more towards those who wish to obtain a CPA) to receive a degree in accounting at a somewhat selective private college, and hope to some day earn my CPA.
My question is, would it be worth it to consider a double major in both accounting and finance? Many of the classes overlap and both areas have caught my interest but, at the same time, is it really worth it in the end?
Although my main focus is to work towards my CPA, would it hurt to have a degree in finance as well. Please give me feedback, all is appreciated.Thank You.

The answer will be driven largely by your career objectives. With the CPA certificate on the wall there are a number of somewhat diverse career paths to choose from.
For some of those paths (e.g. public accounting with a specialization in corporate tax law), a finance degree wouldn't add much. For other career directions, such as CFO / Finance Veep in industry (esp in a larger, multi-divisional operation), the finance degree would indeed be a valuable addition to the accounting degree & CPA cert.
That said, though, if you've got the drive (and the circumstances) to pick up both degrees, having two sheepskins on the resume carries the intangible value of demonstrating that you're someone who's driven and motivated. Even when interviewing for a job for which the additional degree isn't required, that intangible value might just give you the edge over the other candidates.
Wouldn't hurt to float your question past a professional headhunter or two--especially one who specializes in the accounting / finance sector.
Best of luck in your academic and professional endeavors!
