Scared and confused about a diagnosis.
I started feeling sick 2 weeks ago. I vomited, became sweaty and weak with excruciating pain in the abdomen. After that day I have intermittent nausea and pain to the left of the sternum which radiates to my back. I went to my doctor last week after hoping this would go away in a week. She ordered blood work and a CT scan of the abdomen. I called 2 days later as I hadn't heard from the doctor. Her assistant stated that the report of the CT scan said the was concern regarding the head of the pancreas. The doctor wasn't in Friday so I asked medical records to get the reports for me. There was a recorded report in which the Radiologist stated it looked like an adenoma of the pancreas and a MRCP or PET scan would be recommended. I called the doctor on Monday and she finally returned my call on Tuesday and said that the written report did not have that information in it so the radiologist must have looked at the test again and concluded that there was nothing wrong. She said I probably have gastritis. I had searched the internet before I heard that report and felt all my symptoms fit pancreatitis. Now I'm really worried and it doesn't seem like I can trust what the doctor is reporting. What should I do?

The CT scan is yours. The clinic or hospital will want to keep at least a copy, if not the original. Take the scan to an independent lab or to another doctor for a second opinion. Another test or two may have to be done.

Either panceatitis or gastritis coud cause your symptoms.

Wondergirls suggestion is just what you should do.

If there is a pancreatic mass or abnormality this needs to be further evaluated asap. Or if your symptoms worsen or persist for the next couple of days.

Thank you Wondergirl and inthebox for the advice. I'm going to have another radiologist and doctor review the films. I'll feel better hearing the results from them.
