I really have a couple of questions.We are in the process of remodelling our basement laundry room after a hot water tank leak. I would like the laundry room to look finished.. i.e.. No or minimal exposed pipes etc.

1. Can we cover the exposed water pipes and draining safely and is there something we should do to them first? I have seen those boxes that people use to cover the faucets set into the wall for the taps and drain?

2. Can the dryer vent be run in between the studs up the wall? Do we have to do anything special to it? We are using a rigid metal 4" pipe to vent with elbows to connect it to the dryer and to outside, all seams are screwed together and taped with foil tape. Would it pose a fire hazard if not left outside the wall, will we need to access the whole thing in order to clean it or can it be done by snaking into it ?

You're asking about a washer station I assume,(see images) Yes they can be installed in a 2 X 4 wall.

You're using the correct type and size of pipe. However you will need to fur out a 2 X 4" wall to accommodate a 4" pipe.

I agree with Tom.

I had problem with room for 4'' round.

When I did my dryer used a 4'' round to 3 by 8 transition in wall and to outside.
