    Dying maple tree
    My maple tree has developed splits on the trunk and the branches and now there are no leaves on the braches with the splits. The tree was healthy and fine last year

    Very rarelydo maple trees receive blight (at least in my area which is southeastern Ontario), but if it is a very old tree, and some branches are dying (are they older bigger branches), then the problem is with the root way down. All you can do is eliminate those branches that are unsightly. I have had to do that a few times over the years. I consider it pruning to develop new growth. Maple trees, which are usually very hardly on the North American continent, last for well over l00 years and probably more. In downtown Toronto there are some at least 150 years old and in good health with the assistance of very astute maintenance men to maintain their well being. Toronto was l75 years old today the way !
