I became unemployed in September of 2008. Prior to unemployment my credit history was excellent. With the job market as it is now I have been unable to gain unemployment. In January of 2009 I sent certified letters and made phone calls to several of my credit card companies to lower the rate and payments in order to continue to pay on the debts. They won't even talk about lowering the rates and payments. After the calls my interest rate jumped to 27%. My funds ran out in January and I stopped making the payments. After being past due they then started to call... I had to make my decision maintain my house, health insurance, etc. and survive. Now I am in Collections. I own my home. My questions are can they put a lien on my home, enter me in a judgment and put a levy on my checking account.

If they win a judgement then yes they could garnish your wages{when you return to work} if your state allows and also your checking or saving accounts could be attached.
