Marriage to a felon
I've known this man for 8 years, which he got caught up in some trouble with the law, we were planned to be married before he was locked up... My question is, does it show up on background checks that I married a felon? Could it hurt my work career?

It wouldn't show up on your background check directly. But it could show who your spouse is... and they could run a background check on him. That's pretty extensive but I am sure that, in some arenas, a background check on spouses is common practice.
Could it hurt your work career? Well, it could. I guess it depends on what your work career is.

It might not be the best story to tell at the company Christmas Party but I don't think you would have to worry about them finding out through a background check on you.
If it was a career in some governmental field, maybe... but not in a retail business. I suppose there could be exceptions... but I would consider them to rare to choose NOT to marry the one you love over.

I think I might talk to my boss about it and see what he says, I am a little scared that they might look down on me about it, but it's love...

Hmmmm.. are you already employed there?
Be careful... no need to jump the gun and bring up something that you boss may be biased about for no reason.
Some people consider any felon as bad as a crazed, murderous lunatic.

I've been working there for years. They don't know anything personal about me though. We are planned to get married at the end of the month, only if it doesn't effect my job. If it does, he don't want to mess anything up for me.

Ahhh... I see. Well, if you have a good relationship with your boss, you could definitely ask him what his opinion is. He would have a better understanding of how things work higher up the ladder.
My guess is that if you have made it this far, they are not going to dig deep into your background and even more so, the background of your spouse.
Good luck :)

Yes, the person you are married to can seriously effect your carrer the higher up you go.
I have lost jobs in the past because the women I was married to, would not join the garden club or host the ladies monthly social.
While it wll not show up, people know and given good reasons will use it for blackmail or to get back at you.

I did speak with my boss, he said it shouldn't effect anything, but he doesn't exactly know what he is in jail for...

For all practical purposes, the answer to both of your questions is 'no.' Your spouse's background will not come up on a background check of yourself.
