    House Title
I have recently sold my house and the closing day is coming up fast. I got a phone call today from the Lawyers Office telling me that someone else's name is on the title. We have lived in the house for 10 years and have owned it in our names for 5 years. My father in law originally bought the house but we put the downpayment on it. The house was in his name then 5 years later we bought him out. Now all of a sudden there seems to be an issue with the title and someone's else's name is on it. How do I find out who's name is on the title and how do I get them off so that the sale will go through on my house?

First you ask your attorney ( I would assume as seller, your attorney is dong all the title search and preparing the new deed.

When you "bought" it from the father in law, who did the new deed at that time, did you record the new deed at the court house.

You can also merely go down to the recorder of deeds and see whose name is on the recorded deed.
