    Chainsaw not firing!
    It's a Craftsman, I don't know the model number.
    It's got spark and compression.
I put some gas down the cylinder hoping it would fire but it didn't.

I don't know what's wrong. I'm think its not getting gas, I am going to take the gas line off the carb and see if its getting gas, but when I put gas down the cylinder shouldn't it have fired briefly?

    Hi,
If you had fire, it should have burned it out. Much better is to introduce it into the intake (carb) which would be its normal path of entry.
The model number is generally on the corner of a larger tag with other info on it. Usually starts with "358" for Poulan.
Is the carb top front or rear? Does it happen to say the cu.in. or some other decal?
    Peace,
    Clarke

First off I was confirming spark by taking the plug out off the block but leaving the pulg on and touching it against the bloack and pulling the string, it sparked, hence spark.

But I figured out the problem, the emergency shut-off switch wire got pinched under the cover some how and therefor it wouldn't register when you turned the chainsaw on. It was as though the chainsaw was never on. But we got it fixed and all's good.

    Thanks for the input

My Craftsman's chainsaw starts but idles at high RPM's and won't idle down. Could this be caused by excessive varnish in the carburetor? Thank you LindsayMowerRepair
