Wanted boy getting girl
Hi folks! I went to get a gender scan done privately, I was hoping for a boy as I already have a girl - but hey ho, it turns out she's a girl. Im mad withmyself for being slightly dissapointed.
By the way I'm shocked that some of you have had scans which turned out to be the opposite sex!

Amber, I have moved your response to a thread of it's own.
You are shocked that some have had scans that turn out to be the opposite sex? I am a labor and delivery nurse. I see it more times than you would imagine.

Don't be too hard on yourself. There is nothing wrong with feeling some disappointment... just know that your love for this baby will grow beyond measure just as it did for your first one... :)
As J_9 said, scans can be wrong... or rather the interpretation of the scan is wrong. Sometimes it is very obvious, often it is an educated guess.

Of course keep in mind that hoping that the scan is incorrect for the rest of your pregnancy will only cause your disappointment again, if the scan was not incorrect.
Good luck to you for a healthy baby.

Can you talk about why it was you so wanted a boy? I think it might help you to resolve these feelings of disappointment to talk about it. Just stuffing down those feelings means they'll surface in unexpected ways, and, eventually, your child will pick up on them.
So why would it have been better in your life now to have this baby be boy?

The main thing is not letting your disappointment interfer with loving her.
You need to resolve your feelings so you don't end up taking it out on her in any negative ways.

I agree don't be angry at yourself too much. Its perfectly normal and I have known so many women who are disapointed in what their baby's sex is, but once that baby is born, it makes no difference anymore.
Wanting a boy because you already have a girl is perfectly normal. I hope to have a boy if and when I get pregnant again as I already have a daughter. If I have another girl, I may be disapointed that I don't get my boy. But that doesn't mean I'm disapointed in my new daughter.
Good luck

I know this is often true, and people often say this. But it's not always true. I mean parents don't all get over it. My father had three daughters and we all knew he wished one of us, at least, had been a boy. I know what it's like first hand to grow up with a parent who wishes you were something you aren't.
