What type of thin set should I use
What type of thin set should I use over durock to install kerdi and then what kind should I use over kerdi to install ceramic tiles? This is foor a tub surround. Forgot a vapor barrier and I am trying to make up for it.

I like mapei products and would like specific recommendations for which version I should use. I know that I could probably get any type from HD or something but it is easier for me to get mapei products. Your advice would be appreciated.

With Kerdi you must use a premium unmodified thinset mortar that meets ANSI specs of A118.1. It'll say that on the bag someplace. Mix the mortar with water only, even if you're installing porcelain tiles, this is for Kerdi only.

If the choice is Mapei, their best is Kerabond. I don't think HD has a good unmodified mortar anymore.

You would use the kerabond over the durock and over the kerdi. What brand would you recommend if not mapei. Do you think mapie is quality? If not then give specific recommendation and I will see if I can get it. Thank you!

Kerabond is an excellent product and Mapei is world class as they say. If available I recommend Ditraset which is made by Bostik and sold by their Hydroment and Durabond divisions. Bostik is licensed to make it by Schluter. It is specifically formulated for use with Kerdi and over Ditra, great stuff.

Town & Country Ceramic Tile in Tallman should carry Ditraset. 845-357-5553

You are right they do. And close as well thank you for going the extra mile with your recommendation. Since you seem so knowledgeable, do you know a good place to buy the kerdi for a good price, on-line or in store?
